A smoothie is basically a blended and sometimes sweetened, chilled fruit or vegetable beverage. Although some are 100% pure fruit, others can include crushed ice, frozen yogurt honey and a lot more. It has a milk-like consistency but unlike milkshake, it doesn’t contain ice cream.
Every smoothie starts with a liquid base. When the liquid base used is orange juice, then that’s orange juice smoothie. Making a basic orange juice smoothie is very fast and easy. You just put in a blender 6 oz. of frozen orange juice concentrate with 1 cup low-fat or non-fat milk. Add a cup of water, 2 tablespoons of sugar and 10 ice cubes.
Blend until its smooth and serve. It’s quick, healthy and simply delicious. By making an orange juice smoothie, you can turn the traditional orange juice drink into a low-fat, low-calorie nutritious meal. Can it get any better? Yes it can! From the basic orange juice smoothie, you can add lot of ingredients to suit your taste and nutritional needs.
Adding greens is one of the best ways to get the kids to eat veggies without them even knowing that it’s there. By putting in a scoop of high-quality protein powder and a tablespoon of high-quality olive oil your orange juice smoothie is now a complete meal on its own.
Use low-fat milk or soy milk and instead of sugar, use honey or sweeteners sold at health stores and you now have a diet smoothie, one that you can use as a meal replacement but still get the nutrients that the body needs. This is particularly helpful if you’re watching your weight and don’t have time to prepare a healthy, well balanced meal.
Orange juice smoothies especially those with other fruits added such as bananas or strawberries and mangoes can also serve as a great dessert if you are trying to stay away from those fattening cakes and sweets. They can also be made into cocktail smoothies by adding rum or gin. Even coffee can be added if you want a little perking up.
One great thing about smoothies is that you don’t really have to be exact in your measurements when making them. You can actually add anything you like as long as it tastes good, and leave out the ones that you don’t. Be creative with your smoothies and add them to your menu because with the orange juice smoothie, the possibilities are endless.
